Wind Pipe represents one of the most powerful media that people use; the internet. The connected pipe is used as a metaphor for the planetary network system. The wind spoon shows the system that allows easy access to the cyber world where we can be connected to the world and communicate with others. In this project, diverse ethnic is shown on the screen. And by blowing the wind spoon the user can achieve a simulation of the real world where we express our thoughts and influence others. The relationship between the wind and the wind spoon is similar to our world where most of the people are influenced by invisible power such as the media. The media becomes an outlet that carries out the cultural hegemony that influences the whole universe. No matter how people believe that they have the same opportunity to deliver their ideas via the internet, in a sense, everyone is inevitably controlled by the major idea that dominates an era.
Making
Wind Pipe project uses make controller kit to create physical interaction. The movie frame is interlinked with an infinitely rotating knob that is attached to the wind spoon. The frame of the movie is controlled by the wind spoon which rotates as the wind blows. Every time the wind spoon rotates, a famous propaganda would randomly appear and fly across the screen. Action script, NET components were used for the programming. A further step for this project is to have multiple screens all across the room and have the propaganda move through different screens using the same interaction.
