Digital Blue

During undergraduate studies, as a dual major in Visual Communication Design and Interior Architecture Design, my experimentation in interdisciplinary design began in 2005. I applied the basic methods of motion art as general motifs for developing virtual space. One of my early works was an experimentation of creating virtual space by expressing the process of ideas in animation. The concept ideas were: space for children-soft-fun-foxtail (plant)-dynamic. Random effects generated by animating graphic images of each vocabulary were modified into a three-dimensional space. Later on, I was inspired by Deleuze & Gauttari’s "A Thousand Plateaus." Personally, I thought that traits of human emotions were similar to the idea of horizontal and trans-species connections. In order to learn more about this theory, I decided to express emotion into a three-dimensional space. I took four steps for the work, I named Digital Blue: (1) auralization of emotion, (2) schematization of emotion, (3) visualization of emotion and (4) structuralization of emotion. (1)As a music composer and a guitarist in our school band, I was aware that songs express human emotions well. I chose John Legend’s, "Ordinary People" and linked it with a program and (2) allowed it to generate various kinds of images through animation and diagram. (3) I kept on modifying the visual material, and developed it into a three-dimensional image. (4) I made various mock-ups to express the computational ideas and applied my work to develop an architectural space.
